This is a great opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to join a highly respected UK manufacturing company, who supply high quality products into the space industry. The right candidate will be directly involved in a developing and exciting industry, and the products you will be working on will be used on board satellites and robotic probes across the solar system.

Under the direction of the Engineering Team Leader, the Associate Engineer’s primary function will be involved in supporting the Engineering Manager and Lead Project Engineers, in fulfilling the requirements of the programs that they are managing. The role will be wide and varied and will involve a level of on the job learning, learning through research, hands on one to one training and external training courses where appropriate.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The role of the associate propulsion engineer will be to develop their skills in the following areas, and deliver work packages to projects in association with this development and learning:

  • Interface with other areas of engineering to allow accurate technical assessments

  • Provide support for testing of space equipment

  • Provide engineering input into design and development of new products. This includes the following:

    o Production of designs and technical drawings in PTC Creo.
    o Performance of functional and mechanical analyses in a multitude of tools (Ansys, ESATAN, Matlab, LabView, Python, Excel)
    o Analysis of collected data to ascertain performance of products and compliance to requirements flowed down by customers both in development and production
    o Support of heritage products through the production process to ensure a compliant product is produced and all technical aspects are covered
    o Communicate issues and answer questions raised by the customer pertaining to both development and production programs
    o Design, development and management of manufacture, assembly, integration and test of tooling and test equipment in support of the customer program deliverables.

The engineer will be expected to use a number of software packages including:

  • PTC Creo


  • Ansys Structural

  • Ansys Thermal

  • LabView

  • Matlab

  • Python


  • kills and Experience:
    The successful candidate should have the following qualities

  • General appreciation of “hands on” Mechanical engineering (not necessarily for spacecraft) is essential

  • Good understanding of mechanical engineering and some basic electrical engineering

  • An inquisitive and logical mind is required

  • It is expected that the candidate will learn on the job rapidly

  • General enthusiasm for space and space related propulsion activities is required

  • Demonstrated hands on practical skills in the field of mechanical engineering

    Minimum Requirements

    BSc degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering or BSc Degree in Physics with three years relevant industrial experience.
    Ability to work effectively with various levels of customer and company personnel.
    A preparedness for a wide and varied role, the skills of which will be developed through a mix of on the joblearning, self-education and focused training where appropriate
