Position Overview:

Our client seeks a Senior Spacecraft Operations Preparation Engineer to join their team at their UK facility. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to solving the orbital debris challenge and shape technical solutions for missions. You will collaborate closely with design and development engineers across functions, supporting tests in AIV and operational environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as Operations Technical Lead for mission development phases.
  • Develop Mission Operations Concepts for standalone missions or satellite fleets.
  • Assist in Operations Development Plans from Preliminary Design to mission completion.
  • Define Operability requirements and user stories in coordination with Flight Operations and mission segments.
  • Contribute to mission interface definitions, such as ICDs and flight software applications.
  • Participate in Subsystem/Unit and Project Reviews.
  • Serve as product owner for Operations User manuals/handbooks.
  • Support Operations Procedure development for the Mission Operations team.
  • Assist in satellite simulator development and mission database management.
  • Develop test specifications, plans, and procedures for System Validation Tests.
  • Support mission simulations and system tests.
  • Specify tools to aid mission execution, such as database tools, trending tools, dashboards, and context management.
  • Interface between System and Operations teams during mission execution phases (LEOP, Commissioning, Routine, Disposal).
  • Provide support for in-flight satellite anomaly resolution as part of a 24/7 on-call team.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in real-time satellite operations and spacecraft operations preparation throughout the lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with space standards (ECSS, CCSDS, ISO).
  • Knowledge of mission control systems, particularly SCOS-2000 or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with system engineering processes.
  • Experience in developing and validating flight procedures.
  • Familiarity with system testing and AIT processes.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Tcl.
  • Self-managed and proactive work style.
  • Familiarity with Operations Preparation tools like MOIS or script-based tools.
  • Experience with routine and critical real-time satellite operations.
  • Knowledge of configuration management.
