Position Overview:

Our client seeks a Senior Ground Systems Engineer to lead the ground segment team, offering substantial autonomy and responsibility. You will provide technical expertise and mentorship while participating in the full ground segment development lifecycle, from conceptual design to maintenance. This pivotal role interfaces closely between the Mission & Systems team and Operations, contributing to all aspects of ground segment operations at Astroscale’s control center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of ground systems, including Mission Control System, Mission Planning System, and Ground Stations Interface System.
  • Derive and manage requirements for the ground segment and specific components.
  • Act as a Product Owner or Technical Officer for external supplier teams, supporting ground segment development.
  • Implement Agile (SCRUM) methodologies to ensure requirement implementation and schedule adherence.
  • Produce and maintain project documentation to high standards, including requirements, verification, validation plans, and test procedures.
  • Conduct verification & validation activities, ensuring compliance with requirements through system tests and simulation campaigns.
  • Interface with Mission Operations, providing support and training on ground systems.
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of ground segment components, facilitating satellite operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5+ years of industry experience in satellite ground systems engineering.
  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in the space sector.
  • Strong understanding of ground segment components (e.g., mission control, mission planning) and their interactions.
  • Team-oriented and proactive with excellent communication skills for multicultural environments.
  • Strong reporting skills for documentation and change tracking.
  • Knowledgeable in space mission design, development, and standard milestones.
  • Proficient in Requirements Engineering, system integration, verification, and validation.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
